Founded by Lamar Hunt prior to its inaugural season in 1960, the Kansas City Chiefs have a strong sense of community outreach exemplified by Hunt. Two of the flagship programs initiated by Hunt and continued on by the entire Hunt family are the annual Chiefs Charity Game, which has raised nearly $4.5 million the past nine years alone, and the Hunt Family Foundation. Together, these vital outreach resources continue to make a mark throughout the Chiefs Kingdom.

Chiefs Charity Game

Since 1984 the Kansas City Chiefs have teamed with the Kansas City community to raise money and awareness for local children's charities through the annual Chiefs Charity Game. Conceived by Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt, the game encourages Kansas City businesses and philanthropists to support local non-profit agencies who strive to meet the significant physical, educational and material needs of children living in our community. Red Friday

Since 1992, the Friday prior to the first Chiefs regular season home game has been celebrated across the Chiefs Kingdom as Red Friday. What started as a group of fans selling special Chiefs edition newspapers for local nonprofits has become a city-wide celebration in its 22 years. Since its inception Red Friday has raised more than $600,000 for local charities. For the 2013 Red Friday the Kansas City Chiefs partnered with Ronald McDonald House of Greater Kansas City to help raise funds for their new 20-bedroom house. Red Friday is the culmination of the start of the NFL season but, to the Chiefs organization, it’s more than that: It’s the celebration of America’s game, a celebration of the Chiefs, and at the end of the day, it’s a celebration of the community coming together for a united cause.
