You got off to a good start tonight. Is this meaningful in any way? “It’s definitely meaningful. Coach Crennel has been preaching all camp long to get off to a good start. That’s exactly what we came out and accomplished tonight. I think offensively, defensively and special teams got off to a great start. I think that gives us momentum going forward. But again, we know it’s only the first preseason game. We’ve got a ways to go. We’ve got a lot of work to do. There will be a lot of corrections made tomorrow. But, at the same time, I was proud of how everybody came out and got off to a good start today.”

Looking back at last year, the first few games of the preseason were kind of a mess. Can you draw the line from that to the start of the regular season that you guys just weren’t ready? “I don’t even want to talk about last year. Last year was last year. I’m proud of how we came out tonight. We performed at home. We got off to a good start. It feels good to win in front of our home crowd – even if it is a preseason game. Moving forward, we know we’ve got a lot of work to do. It was a heckuva start tonight for us.”

How did it feel to have RB Jamaal [Charles] back on the field with you? “It’s always good when you see No. 25 back there. He adds an element of explosiveness and he’s a guy who, every time he touches the ball, has a chance to go all the way. So, to have him back out there running around and looking like old Jamaal, it was great.”

What did you learn about your offensive coordinator tonight? “Coach Daboll does a great job of impressing upon the guys about technique, about fundamentals, but also about just doing your job. He talks about it all the time. It’s about being a professional. I think the way that he does that everybody buys in. Coming out here tonight and the way that he called the game, I thought it was great.”

There were a lot of different formations tonight. Talk about how comfortable you were? “There were a lot of different formations. I think I’m very comfortable. We’ve had a very good camp so far. We’ve been working hard. I think the offensive line, the receivers, the running backs have embraced the challenge of learning this offense and it showed it tonight.”

It seems that the offensive guys have taken to Daboll’s coaching style. “There is no doubt that Coach Daboll does a great job. He’s diligent and very meticulous about details. He does a great job of spending as much time as possible with us.”
