A Historical Look at the Chiefs' Second-Round Draft Picks

Exploring how successful the Chiefs have been in the second round of the NFL Draft over the years

In 1967, a system called the “common draft” was implemented for the AFL and NFL. In this system, the two leagues held a joint draft for college players. The “common draft” existed until 1969 as the AFL and NFL would officially merge in 1970.

The following is a list of the 42 players the Chiefs have drafted in the second round since 1967:

  • The Chiefs drafted Chris Jones in the second round last year (2016) with the 37th overall pick. Jones was the first player drafted by the Chiefs, as they traded out of the first round.
