Alex Smith Honored as FedEx Air Player of the Week

Posted Dec 7, 2017

Smith took home the award for the second time this season on Thursday

Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Alex Smith put together one of the best games of his season last Sunday against the New York Jets, and it seems to have caught the attention of the rest of the league.

Smith was named the FedEx Air Player of the Week on Thursday afternoon after posting a league-best 135.9 passer rating against New York, completing 19 of 33 passes for 366 yards and four touchdowns.

The performance marked Smith’s third-career game with four or more touchdowns and his 366 yards through the air were the third-most of his career.

This is the second time that Smith has brought home the honor this season, also earning the award in Week 1. He’s one of just two quarterbacks to win the award twice this season, joining Philadelphia Eagles’ signal caller Carson Wentz.

The 12-year veteran is closing in on single-season career-highs in passing yards (263 shy) and touchdowns (tied) as the Chiefs take aim at the season’s final four games with the intent of winning a second-straight AFC West title.
