Alex Smith Makes a Special Gesture on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Posted Nov 16, 2017

Smith surprised a family of Chiefs fans with tickets to an upcoming game earlier this week

The Kansas City Chiefs are hard at work preparing to take on the New York Giants on Sunday, but quarterback Alex Smith still found the time to make a special moment for a family of Chiefs fans even sweeter.

The Watson family was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this week discussing how Marcus Watson and his daughter, Madison Marie, recently changed their surnames to match that of Marcus’ stepdad, Paul Watson, for his birthday.

The elder Watson has been a part of Marcus’ life since he was a child.

The Watsons, who live in Pennsylvania, described themselves as “big time” Chiefs fans before being greeted by Smith via video message, who thanked Marcus for his service in the military and Paul for being a great dad.

He then offered the family four club-level tickets to an upcoming game, along with sideline passes and a tour of the stadium.

Smith talked about his gesture on Wednesday.

"I found out about it a couple days ago - the entire story of the Watson family,” Smith said. “Obviously, I thought it was a very cool story and I was honored to be a part of it when they asked.”

The family will be on hand to watch Smith at Arrowhead later this season, all clad in their new personalized jerseys with “Watson” penned across the back.
