Chiefs Injury Update: Four Players Leave Sunday’s Game with Injuries

Posted Dec 31, 2017

Andy Reid provided an update on Kansas City’s injured players following the game

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Denver Broncos, 27-24, to wrap up the regular season on Sunday afternoon.

The Chiefs lost a handful of players to injuries in the contest, notably wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas, defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches, cornerback Phillip Gaines and tailback Akeem Hunt.

Thomas injured his leg fielding a punt late in the first quarter and did not return to the field.

“It looks like De’Anthony fractured his leg,” said Head Coach Andy Reid. “He’ll stay up here, he won’t travel back with the team and he’ll have surgery here in the next little bit.”

Nunez-Roches suffered an ankle injury midway through the second half and didn’t see any action the rest of the game.

“Roches had an ankle sprain, so that’s why he came out,” Reid said.

Gaines (elbow) and Hunt (ankle) also didn’t return to the game after sustaining injuries.

“Hunt has a twisted ankle,” Reid said. “Gaines dislocated his elbow, but he’s up and moving and he’s OK.”

The Chiefs will take on the Tennessee Titans next week at Arrowhead Stadium to kick off the postseason.
