Chiefs Make Roster Moves; More Work To Do

Chiefs must make two additional roster moves by Tuesday afternoon

The Chiefs waived seven players Monday morning, but more moves are still in store over the next 24 hours. Kansas City must make two additional roster moves in order to get down to the 80-man roster maximum by 3:00 PM (CST) Tuesday.

The team released a list of seven names shortly before Monday’s practice. Here’s a brief background on each departing player. None of the seven had any regular season NFL experience.

LB Eric Bakhtiari (6-3, 250)

Bakhtiari (pictured) was one of the few bright spots in Kansas City’s preseason opener with six tackles and a sack. Unfortunately, the 26-year old outside linebacker was unable to stay on the field. He hadn’t practice since August 13th and was competing in a very crowded position group.

Entering the league undrafted in 2008, Bakhtiari joined the Chiefs practice squad late last season and had signed a reserve/future deal in January.

FB Tervaris Johnson (6-2, 248)

Injured in training camp last season, Johnson spent all of 2010 on injured reserve. He began training camp on the Physically-Unable-To-Perform this, but was lifted from PUP in early August. Johnson originally joined the Chiefs as a rookie free agent out of Miami (FL) in 2010.

DB Javes Lewis (6-1, 190)

The rookie free agent out of Oregon was a late addition, joining the Chiefs training camp roster on August 3rd. He was listed fifth on the depth chart at free safety behind Kendrick Lewis, Jon McGraw, Sabby Piscitelli and Ricky Price.

WR Chris Manno (5-10, 185)

A rookie out of Hofstra, Manno played in Arena 2 last season. He did not receive any targets in the passing game this preseason.

WR Josue Paul (6-1, 190)

A rookie free agent from GM Scott Pioli’s alma mater, Central Connecticut State, Paul was one of 13 wide receivers in training camp. He did not record any preseason statistics. Paul also practiced as a return man, but did not log any preseason returns.

DB Mario Russell (6-2, 205)

Russel arrived the same day as Lewis, joining the Chiefs as a rookie free agent from Carson-Newman August 3rd. He was competing for a roster spot at cornerback.

WR Chandler Williams (5-11, 176)

Injured during OTAs in the spring of 2010, Williams spent all of last season on injured reserve. He originally arrived with the Chiefs in 2009 as a member of the practice squad.

Williams finished the preseason with one catch for eight yards. He also returned two punts for minus-one yard.
