Chiefs Players Account For Three Pro Bowl TDs

Jamaal Charles leads AFC in rushing, while Matt Cassel tosses two TDs in 55-41 AFC loss

Fueled by six takeaways, the NFC Pro Bowl squad cruised to an easy 55-41 victory over the AFC All-Stars in the 41st NFL Pro Bowl on Sunday in Honolulu, Hawaii. Despite the lopsided loss, Kansas City’s 2010 Pro Bowlers accounted for plenty of offense and were involved in over half of the AFC’s scoring.

In an all-Chiefs offensive drive, the AFC found the scoreboard for the first time inside the final five minutes of the second quarter on a seven-yard Jamaal Charles TD run. Matt Cassel handed off to Charles five times during the six-play, 67-yard scoring drive that ate just 2:38 off the clock.

Cassel connected with Dwayne Bowe on a 10-yard pass play in the only snap of the scoring drive that didn’t go to Charles.

Charles would finish the day with an AFC-best 72 rushing yards on 10 attempts. Averaging 7.2 yards per carry, Charles’ 32-yard second quarter run was the game’s longest and he become the first Chiefs player to rush for a Pro Bowl TD since Trent Green did so in 2006. It was the only rushing TD recorded by the AFC.

While Cassel accounted for two of the team’s five INTs in a rough outing for AFC quarterbacks, he did throw his first Pro Bowl TD late in the fourth quarter to Jaguars RB Montell Owens. The seven-yard TD toss was the first by a Chiefs Pro Bowler since Trent Green connected with Denver RB Clinton Portis in the 2004 edition of the all-star contest.

Cassel found the end zone again several snaps later in a bizarre hook-and-ladder/lateral play that ended with Cleveland C Alex Mack rumbling into the end zone to complete the 67-yard TD pass. Dwayne Bowe originally caught the pass for 21 yards before a lateral to Owens, who then executed the scoring lateral to Mack.

Cassel’s two TD passes tied him for the AFC team-high with Chargers QB Philip Rivers.
