Players will report to St. Joesph Thursday evening with the first public practice taking place Friday at 3:30 PM

Time for camp! Chiefs GM Scott Pioli, Head Coach Todd Haley and President Mark Donovan held a joint press conference Tuesday morning at the Chiefs Training Facility to bring fans and media up to date with the club’s plans for the coming days.

Among the first topics covered: Training Camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO.

Players will reporting to Arrowhead Thursday before heading to MWSU later that evening for check-in. Camp will officially begin on Friday with the first public practice beginning at 3:30 PM.  Practices will be held at the same time Saturday and Sunday as well.

While there are still details that have yet to be decided for training camp, Donovan did release a few details that fans can look forward to.

“One is there will be multiple night practices up at camp, two is we will be doing family fun day as we have in the past,” said Donovan. “Right now it’s scheduled for Saturday, August 6th. We will also have a season ticket holder night at training camp.”

Another aspect of camp that they wanted to let fans know was that they are going to try to keep as many practices open to the public as possible.

“I think what you’re going to see at training camp this year is, whenever possible, our practices are going to be open to the public, and we’ve talked about that,” said Donovan. “Obviously, if there’s a thunderstorm and it’s raining and the coach has to take players indoors, we physically can’t bring fans in there, but our goal is to have every practice open to the public.”

In addition to the fans, Donovan was also very complimentary of Missouri Western State University for their support through the entire process.

“The folks at Missouri Western, I can’t compliment them enough,” he said. “They have been in discussions with us for months. Dan Nicoson (Vice President of University Advancement) and his team has really done a good job of understanding the process we’re going through, understanding the variables that we had to be prepared for, and we could not be ready for camp starting on Thursday and Friday had it not been for their cooperation.”

Donovan encouraged fans to continue to check back with for more information as camp gets closer.
