Chiefs Set To Open 2011 Preseason Schedule On National Television

Kansas City will host Tampa Bay in a nationally-televised preseason opener on August 12th

The prelude to the 2011 regular season is set and the Chiefs will open it on National Television. NFL officials unveiled the league’s 2011 preseason schedule Tuesday afternoon, putting a renovated Arrowhead Stadium in the national spotlight once again.

The Chiefs are set to open the preseason slate on Friday, August 12th against Tampa Bay at Arrowhead. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM (CST) and the game will be broadcast to a national audience on FOX.

Kansas City will also host St. Louis and travel to Baltimore and Green Bay during the 2011 preseason. The dates and kickoff times of those games have yet to be determined. Each of the final three preseason games will be shown locally on KCTV-5.

The regular season schedule is expected to be announced later this month. Last year’s announcement came on April 20th, two days prior to the 2010 NFL Draft.

Preseason Series History: Rams lead 7-5

Last Preseason Meeting: 9/3/09, Rams win 17-9 in St. Louis

Of Note: The 43rd installment of the Governor’s Cup Series. Kansas City holds an overall advantage of 26-14-2 in the series, including a perfect 5-0 regular season record against the Rams. The Chiefs won the 2010 Governor’s Cup 27-13 in a regular season victory over St. Louis (12/19).

Last Preseason Meeting: 9/2/10, Chiefs win 17-13 at Arrowhead

Of Note: The Chiefs will meet the defending Super Bowl Champion twice in 2011. Kansas City hosts Green Bay during the 2011 regular season. The last time the Chiefs played an opponent in both the preseason and regular season was 2008 (Miami).
