The Chiefs will play their inaugural game at the New Arrowhead at 7:00 PM on Friday night vs. Philadelphia (8/27). An official dedication ceremony will take place at Founder’s Plaza at 5:00 PM. A total of 386 Chiefs games (88 preseason, 293 regular season and fi ve postseason) were played at original incarnation of Arrowhead, beginning with a 24-14 preseason victory vs. St. Louis (8/12/72).

Kansas City is coming off a 20-15 loss at Tampa Bay (8/21) on Saturday night, while Philadelphia enters the contest after suffering a 22-9 loss at Cincinnati (8/21). The Chiefs held advantages in total yards (366 to 312), passing yards (214 to 213), rushing yards (152 to 99) and time of possession (34:55 to 25:05) against the Bucs. QB Matt Cassel led the Chiefs offense for the entire fi rst half, completing 14 of 19 passes for 125 yards and a TD, good for a 108.4 rating. Seventeen different receivers caught at least one pass for KC in the contest. The Chiefs defense limited the Bucs to only seven fi rst downs in the first half, while CB Javier Arenas registered a 54-yard KO return to spark the Chiefs initial TD.

On Wednesday, August 25th, fans are invited to attend the club’s open practice at the New Arrowhead at 7:15 PM. Stadium gates will open at 6:15 PM. The event is free and will culminate with a choreographed fi reworks show. The team will officially open the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Honor presented by Time Warner Cable at 4:30 PM. The Chiefs will round out their preseason schedule at the New Arrowhead next week vs. Green Bay (9/2).

Thanks to the citizens of Jackson County, Missouri, who approved the measure that helped finance this $375 million renovation of Arrowhead, Kansas City has a premier sports and entertainment venue. Chiefs Chairman Clark Hunt and his family committed $125 million to this project. The New Arrowhead will celebrate its grand opening when the Chiefs host San Diego on Monday Night Football on September 13th.

“Our vision for the New Arrowhead was ‘new body, same soul,’” Hunt said. “We wanted to give our fans all of the amenities of a brand-new, first-class venue while preserving the iconic elements of the stadium. I am delighted to say that we exceeded my loftiest expectations, and we are extremely proud to show our fans the results.”

Kansas City won the only previous preseason game in this series, claiming a 24-21 victory at Arrowhead (8/9/79). The Chiefs broke a 14-14 fourth quarter tie with 10 unanswered points and then withstood a late rally by the Eagles. Philadelphia holds a 4-2 (.667) edge in the regular season series, including a 3-1 mark at Arrowhead Stadium. The Eagles have won three consecutive games against the Chiefs. Philadelphia claimed victories at Arrowhead in 2001 and 2005, as well as registering a 34-14 win in the Chiefs inaugural appearance at Lincoln Financial Field (9/27/09).

Philadelphia claimed a victory in the first game of the series by a 21-20 count at Kansas City (10/22/72). The Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead, but the Chiefs scored 14 second-half points, including a 20-yard TD pass from QB Len Dawson to TE Willie Frazier in the fourth quarter. The ’72 campaign marked the Chiefs initial season at Arrowhead after the club spent its first nine seasons in Kansas City playing at Municipal Stadium (’63-71). The Eagles will become the first team to play in the New Arrowhead. The teams would not meet again until ’92 when Kansas City produced a 24-17 victory vs. Philadelphia (10/11/92) thanks to fi ve catches for 167 yards with a TD from current Chiefs scout Willie Davis.
