We spotlight the former Huskies CB, who earned First-Team All-Pac-12 honors in 2012

The 2013 NFL Draft Spotlight series continues, as we preview one pro prospect per day, right up until the start of the draft, April 25-27. However, none of the reports in this series are indicative of who the Kansas City Chiefs plan to draft, with any of their currently-owned eight picks.

Day 27 of 32

Desmond Trufant is on the path to the NFL, hoping to join his two brothers, Marcus (Seattle Seahawks) and Isaiah (New York Jets), in the league. Desmond's stats at the University of Washington indicate that he's well on his way.

Trufant started 45-straight games before missing a game against Colorado in 2012. He was named honorable mention All-Pac 12 by league coaches in 2009, collecting two INTs (one that secured the Huskies win against Arizona) and six pass breakups.

Trufant's numbers were down in 2010 (one INT and four pass breakups), but he played more to his ability in 2011, earning another honorable mention all-conference season as a junior (two interceptions, 14 pass breakups).

Desmond's senior campaign included one INT, eight pass breakups, one forced a fumble and a blocked kick, garnering 2012 All-Pac-12 First Team honors.

Trufant later went on to star at the 2013 Senior Bowl, before showcasing his talents at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine.

According to ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay, via Twitter:

"Des. Trufant's cover skills, instincts impressive. Plug-play starter as rook IMO. Not allergic to run support but takes "buffet" approach."

"Trufant isn't an especially physical player -- he doesn't tackle consistently against the run and needs to peel off blocks with more strength and leverage," according to Doug Farrar of Yahoo! Sports.

"Could struggle against bigger, more physical NFL receivers who like to mix it up. Gets his feet caught up at times on combo routes...Benefitted from his status as the best player on Washington's defense; he wasn't as challenged as he would have been in better secondaries because opposing quarterbacks could (and would) avoid him as a target. Could read keys more effectively; will bite on play and run action at times and uses his athleticism and "make-up" speed -- the NFL moves faster."
