DAY 7 of 30
Playing the left tackle position is also referred to as protecting the quarterback's 'blind side' and is known to be the most difficult spot on the OL.
Saints T Jermon Bushrod took ownership of protecting QB Drew Brees' blind side, as a starter in 2009, and has been an anchor at the position ever since.
Here's a look at some of what Bushrod, the only Towson player ever to be drafted by the Saints, has shown during his six seasons in the league.
Name: Jermon Bushrod
Born: August 19, 1984 (Fredricksburg, Virginia)
Experience: 6 years
Drafted: 2007, 4th Round-125th pick overall by New Orleans Saints
Two things jump out, when talking about Jermon Bushrod, durability and improvement.
With the Saints, Bushrod has 62 starts in 66 games, largely in part to staying healthy. The two-time Pro Bowl left tackle ranked third among the free agent offensive tackles available, with 1,130 snaps in 2012.
The Fredricksburg, Virginia native is still considered to be a raw talent, with a high ceiling, despite showing consistent improvement during his time in New Orleans.
In 2011, Bushrod helped the Saints amass an NFL-record 7,474 yards; Jermon allowed just three sacks, along the way.
Check out Jermon's sacks-allowed stats over the last four years in the Big Easy:
During his 2011 campaign, his three sacks allowed, came during 1,177 snaps of the football.
Bushrod has a tendency to bend at the waist, instead of the knees, sacrificing the strength he could use to combat stronger and quicker defensive linemen.
The numbers don't lie, Bushrod continues to improve and if you combine that with his championship pedigree (SB XLIV), the sky could be the limit for the 28-year-old.
