Kansas City releases two players this morning

The Chiefs released WR Devard Darling and RB Dantrell Savage this morning. The two transactions bring the Chiefs total to five players released who finished the 2009 season on Kansas City’s roster.

Kansas City previously released G Mike Goff on February 24th and both LBs Justin Rogers and Weston Dacus on February 8th. All players who have been released this offseason ended the year on injured reserve for the Chiefs.

Darling missed all of last season, tearing the ACL in his left knee against Seattle this preseason. Darling was listed as a starter on the Chiefs depth chart at the time. Savage battled nagging injuries throughout 2009 and was placed on injured reserve December 19th with an ankle injury.

Darling has six six accrued seasons of NFL experience, so he will not be subject to waivers. Savage heads to the waiver wire.

Entering Friday's opening bell of unrestricted free agency, the Chiefs currently have four wide receivers and five running backs under contract for 2010.

Chiefs wide receivers currently under contract for 2010: Dwayne Bowe, Quinten Lawrence, Lance Long and Chandler Williams.

Chiefs running backs currently under contract for 2010: Tim Castille, Jamaal Charles, Javarris Williams, Kestahn Moore and Kolby Smith.
