Kansas City Defeats Tennessee, 30-6, in Preseason Finale

The Chiefs closed out the preseason with a win on Thursday night

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Tennessee Titans, 30-6, to close out the preseason on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes played the entire first half, completing nine of 16 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown. The bulk of that yardage was hauled in by wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, who caught passes of 53 and 46 yards. The two players connected for a third time on a 28-yard touchdown in the closing seconds of the first half. In all, the duo combined for 127 yards on three catches.

Rookie wide receiver Jehu Chesson was responsible for Kansas City’s first score of the game, returning a Tennessee punt 76 yards for a touchdown midway through the second quarter.

Quarterback Tyler Bray took over under center to begin the second half, completing six of eight passes for 63 yards and a touchdown. Bray found tight end Gavin Escobar for a score from two yards out to extend Kansas City’s lead in the third quarter.

Joel Stave finished the night at quarterback for Kansas City, going 2-for-2 for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Rookie linebacker Ukeme Eligwe was all over the field for Chiefs, recording six tackles (4.0 solo) and an interception. Overall, the Kansas City defense held Tennessee out of the end zone throughout the night as the Chiefs finished the preseason with a 2-2 record.  

The Chiefs kickoff the regular season on Sept. 7 as they travel to New England to take on the Patriots.
