NFL Playoff Scenarios: Who Might the Chiefs Play in Wild Card Game?

Posted Dec 27, 2017

Here’s a look at all the scenarios

With their 29-13 win over the Miami Dolphins last Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium, the Kansas City Chiefs (9-6) clinched their fourth playoff berth in five years under head coach Andy Reid.

It also guaranteed the Chiefs another winning season—making them one of just three teams in the NFL to have a winning record in each of the past five seasons.

In addition to securing back-to-back AFC West championships, the win over the Dolphins also guaranteed that the Chiefs will host an AFC Wild Card game at Arrowhead Stadium.

And with that, there are three potential opponents for the Chiefs, who are locked into the AFC’s No. 4 seed regardless of what happens this weekend against the Broncos.

Those three teams would be the Baltimore Ravens, which is the most-likely outcome, and then the Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills.

Here’s what needs to happen for the Chiefs to face any of those three teams:

For the Chiefs to play the Baltimore Ravens…

The Ravens face the Bengals at 3:25 p.m. CT on Sunday, and if the Ravens win that game, the Chiefs will be facing the Ravens in the Wild Card round. It wouldn’t matter what else happens around the league.

If the Ravens lose to the Bengals, the Chiefs would still face them if the Jaguars beat the Titans (3:25 p.m. CT) AND the Dolphins beat the Bills (3:25 p.m. CT).

For the Chiefs to play the Tennessee Titans…

If the Bengals beat the Ravens (3:25 p.m. CT) AND the Titans beat the Jaguars (3:25 p.m. CT), the Chiefs will face the Titans in the Wild Card game.

For the Chiefs to play the Buffalo Bills…

If the Bengals beat the Ravens (3:25 p.m. CT), AND the Jaguars beat the Titans (3:25 p.m. CT), AND the Bills beat the Dolphins (3:25 p.m. CT), the Chiefs will face the Bills in the Wild Card game.
