First Downs for Down Syndrome is the charity of choice for the Chiefs offensive linemen. Since its inception in 1992, FDFDS has raised nearly $7 million thanks to the relationship. FDFDS is a 501(c)3 organization that teams with the offensive line to raise money for Down syndrome organizations, raise awareness of Down syndrome and enhance the positive images of those with Down syndrome. FDFDS is supported solely through tax-deductible contributions and participating in special events and fundraisers held throughout the year. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this partnership benefit the following organizations:
- First Downs for Down Syndrome
- EXCEL (Expanding College for Exceptional Learners) and the Thrive Program
- Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center
- The Down Syndrome Clinic
- The Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City
- The Mission Project
- The University of Kansas, Adult Down Syndrome Clinic
A decade-long partner of FDFDS, KFC is part of Yum! Brands, Inc., the world’s largest restaurant company in terms of system restaurants, with more than 36,000 locations around the world. KFC operates more than 5,300 restaurants in the United States and more than 15,000 units around the world and is a partner of the Kansas City Chiefs. In the past, the Chiefs and KFC partnered for the 2012 KFC First Downs for Down Syndrome Donation Drive, giving KFC customers the opportunity to donate $1 to FDFDS with every purchase at local KFC restaurants.
The Kansas City Chiefs and the entire Hunt family have made corporate citizenship and charitable giving in the community a priority for the organization. Through club outreach initiatives, these efforts focus on many programs and groups which improve the civic climate in our region, support families and children in crisis, improve health and wellness among children while preserving the legacy and history of the game of football.
