Chiefs players turn their focus toward the regular season opener

The Kansas City Chiefs did not take the day off on Labor Day; instead they were preparing to take on the Atlanta Falcons this weekend for the season opener.

After just over a two hour practice on Monday, Chiefs players had an open locker room and spoke with the media about injuries, improvements and the season opener.

LB Brandon Siler on getting back into the game of football after being injured last season:

“I’m loving it. I just like being back out there. I’m trying to compete every day to give us a better chance of winning games.”

LB Andy Studebaker commented on the readiness of the team to play against the Atlanta Falcons in the season opener:

“Yeah, I think we are. Obviously, they are a great team and they’ve done some big things in the last couple of years. They have a lot of great players but, so do we. We’ve been working hard all camp; we’ve known they’ve been coming so I think we are going to be prepared and ready for them.”

LB Greenwood on the biggest improvement he’s made since he has been in Kansas City:

“Probably pre-snap; looking at the type of formation and anticipating what play you’re going to get. That’s the big thing because in the NFL it can happen so fast if your just reacting then you are pretty much already beat.”

NT Dontari Poe on the defensive injuries and how the team will handle it:

“More guys just need to step up, myself included. I know that is a part of the game, people getting hurt, and it’s up to the people behind them to step up and make more plays.”

LB Derrick Johnson on the upcoming season opener:

“This game is mental right now. It’s about getting myself healthy and seeing if I can help this team win on Sunday…I’m a ball player so it’s going to be hard to sit this one out.”

Hartman on why he made the cut:

“I think I earned the trust of the coaches early on by trying to pick up the playbook as fast as possible, by working hard on my technique, and just trying to get better every day…I hope I showed reliability and consistency, which is what it takes to be a professional. I want to be in this league for a long time and I have to get better at those every day.”
