Manchester United will christen The New Arrowhead tonight at 5:00 PM

Lights, Camera, Action!

Tonight is the night! The first-ever sporting event will take place inside the newly renovated Arrowhead Stadium this evening, when star-studded Manchester United takes on the Kansas City Wizards at 5:00 PM.

United has delivered several of its marquee stars for their four-market North American Tour, giving soccer fans in Kansas City a chance to watch some of the most talented players in the world.  The list of confirmed international standouts includes legendary midfielder Ryan Giggs (Wales), English standouts Paul Scholes and Gary Neville, as well as Darren Fletcher (Scotland), Dimitar Berbatov (Bulgaria) and Edwin Van der Sar (Holland).

The Red Devils full travel roster is as follows…

Kansas City is the third stop for the 2009 English Premier League champion, who are 2-0 thus far in North America. Man U defeated Celtic 3-1 on July 16th in Toronto and upended the Philadelphia Union 3-1 on July 21st. Manchester will face the MLS All-Stars in the 2010 AT&T MLS All-Star Game at Reliant Stadium, in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, July 28th (live on ESPN2 and TeleFutura at 8:30 p.m. ET). 

The Kansas City Wizards and Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that additional upper-level tickets were going on sale due to high demand for Sunday’s friendly. The tickets cost $20 and are available through, by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 or at any area Ticketmaster outlet.

“Fan response for our match against Manchester United has been tremendous,” Wizards President Robb Heineman said in a statement released by the Wizards. “The great crowd we are expecting Sunday will reinforce that Kansas City is a premier soccer city and that the New Arrowhead Stadium will make an ideal host venue if the FIFA World Cup comes to the United States in 2018 or 2022.”
