Chiefs' Legend Johnny Robinson Selected as a "Seniors Finalist" for Pro Football Hall of Fame

Robinson’s 57 interceptions are the second-most in franchise history

The Pro Football Hall of Fame may soon feature another member of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Safety Johnny Robinson, who spent his entire career with the Dallas Texans/Chiefs franchise from 1960-71, was selected by the Hall of Fame Seniors Committee on Friday as the "Seniors Finalist" for the Class of 2019.

The Hall of Fame began the annual selection of a "Senior Nominee" in 1972, which considers players whose career ended at least 25 years ago. To be elected, Robinson will need to garner at least 80 percent of the vote from the 48-person Selection Committee.

It's an honor that's likely far overdue.

"I'm thrilled. I can't tell you how pleased I am to have been selected," Robinson told the Hall of Fame’s website.

Robinson certainty put together a career worthy of the recognition.

His 57 interceptions rank second in franchise history, only one behind 2008 Hall of Fame inductee and current Chiefs' defensive backs' coach Emmitt Thomas, while his 741 interception-return yards rank third.

Robinson earned a trip to seven Pro Bowls and helped create two turnovers in Kansas City's win over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV, tallying an interception and a fumble recovery. If elected, Robinson will be the 10th member of the Chiefs' championship team to be enshrined in Canton.
