Shinn saw his first window of opportunity to being an artist in today's world in Kansas City. At age 14, Shinn attended the Midwestern Music and Art Camp at the University of Kansas. On the first day, he traveled to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and saw an exhibition by Claes Oldenburg. This exhibition was Shinn's first introduction to contemporary art and ultimately served as the inspiration for this piece, which represents an opening to opportunities.
Shinn, a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute, keeps residences in Dallas, New York and Berlin.
