Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid

OPENING STATEMENT:

"Alright, injuries here. (Travis) Kelce has a sore knee, should be fine and will have an MRI tomorrow. (Dunta) Robinson hurt his shoulder and had an X-ray on that and it was negative. (Jamar) Newsome hurt his ankle on the last play. There were some good things we can take out of this, and there were some things we need to work on. The good things I thought our defense for the most part did a nice job. You've got to eliminate quarterback scrambles, and you've got a pretty good day there. Offensively, we've got to go back and have to be able to throw the football in this league and we've got to do a little better of a job protection up front and we'll do that. They gave us a lot of different looks, so that will help us down the road. We don't do very much game plan for this so we get all of the different blitz looks and some of them are new ones and it's our first time seeing them. You have to handle it and pick them up and things go a little smoother. There are a bunch of things we can learn from it. I thought that special teams did a great job. I thought (Quintin) Demps was good. Knile Davis, I thought, on the offensive side, was a positive. And again, I thought the defensive end as a unit did a nice job."

Talk about the decision of keeping Jamaal Charles out for the game.

"I had Jamaal (Charles) with me, and he worked before the game and he's feeling better. I didn't think there was any reason to risk it. He is getting better each day and has made quite a bit of progress. We'll just see how he does the next couple of days. It's a day to day situation."

Will he be at practice this week?

"We'll see how he does tomorrow. It is day to day, but he had a hard workout today, so we'll see how he feels tomorrow."

Knile Davis was really churning today, how did you feel about his performance?

"He had some good, tough yards. He was productive. He's a young kid, and he missed a couple of blitz pick-ups there, but that's good. He'll learn from them and do well. When he had opportunities to carry the football I thought he ran well, I thought he saw things well. They didn't look too fast for him."

Kick-off returns have been productive lately, can you talk about Quintin Demps' return today?

"Yeah I thought Demps, well he's fast, and he's not afraid to hit and with kickoffs you need to be able to do that. You don't want to go sideways in this league, you want to get yourself going downhill and fast and he did that. I thought the guys blocked well too."

Of all of the phases of the game, do you feel like special teams has been the most consistent for you?

"I think with the ones, special teams have been good. Now the ones I thought they did well on the defensive side tonight and then last week I thought the ones on the offensive side did well. So, we didn't do a good enough job today and that's the bottom line."

Do you think protection is key to a good offense?

"Well there were some protection issues, whether there were hot throws or whether there were protections that we had breakdowns on, we've got to make sure we take care of those. It's good to learn from. We need that work."

Giving that you were going against the 49ers second defense did you expect more from your first offense?

"Well, I expect to score every series. I don't expect anything less than that. Did I expect more? Yes, I expected to score on that."

Only one target for Dwayne Bowe, any reason for that?

"No, they rolled their coverage to them, the one we probably could have scored on there, that was an opportunity that we would have liked. But no, it's not by design that he's not getting the ball."
