Five Things We Learned From Wednesday's Media Availability

Head Coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes met with the media on Wednesday afternoon

Kansas City Chiefs' Head Coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes met with the media on Wednesday afternoon.

Here are five things that stood out.

Head Coach Andy Reid

1. What are your plans for Jeff Allen?

REID: "Kind of get him back in the swing, first of all. Let him get in and get the verbiage down and then get out and practice a little bit here and see how he does. Right now, he is in a backup position. We will just see how it goes. Glad to have him back though."

2. Do you feel like you can learn more from a loss than a win? If so, what did you learn from the loss?

REID: "I think it's important that you do both. You have an equal opportunity with wins and losses. You better go back and look at what you've done as an individual coach and player. What can you do better? In big wins, there is something you can do better if you are real with yourself, which becomes really important in this business, and then you do those things."

3. Sunday night was the first time the defense was on the field when the Patriots made their game-winning drive. With you sitting next to Bob (Sutton), what do you both feel needs to improve if this same scenario arises again?

REID: "We did a really nice job on Rob Gronkowski up until seven minutes and twenty seconds on the clock. He had only one catch at that point. Then they got us on a couple of big plays. Bob [Sutton] goes back and evaluates. We talk. What can we help the guys with and what do the guys need to do to help themselves? It's a two-way street. We're in it just like the players are in it. We want to make sure we put them in the best position. If they're in the best position, then let's work on the technique. We have good guys that look at that. That falls back on the question of being real. Our guys will stand up and tell you when they messed up. Coaches will tell you when they mess up and you have that and then you can get better. If there is a wall there then you will be average, but if you are willing to put it out there, you will get better. Everyone comes together collectively on it. We all take responsibility. That's the important thing."

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes

4. How do you think this team will bounce back after a loss?

MAHOMES: "I think we have a good mentality and a good attitude. We knew it was going to be a tough game. We wanted to win and we ended up coming up a little short, but I feel like that fight that we had in the second half of that game will carry over into this next week."

5. Is there something you guys need to do better to improve on red zone efficiency and scoring touchdowns rather than kicking field goals?

MAHOMES: "We have to be perfect with everything that we do, and it starts with me. You can't miss [throws] like the one to Kareem [Hunt] on that seam route and Tyreek [Hill] on the deep cross and [Travis] Kelce in the corner. I know they're tough throws on some of those but when you play really good teams - and we are playing a really good team this week – we have to find ways to get in that end zone."
