Chiefs Announce 2023 Week 8 High School Coaches of the Week

Kansas City Chiefs announce high school coaches of the week for Week 8 of the 2023 Season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Coach of the Week honors for the eighth week of the 2023 season. The Week Eight awards go to Raytown South Head Coach William Harris (Missouri) and Bishop Miege Head Coach Jon Holmes (Kansas).

As a result of this honor, the awarded schools will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, the coaches will be presented a pair of sunglasses, courtesy of Oakley, a congratulatory commemorative Super Bowl LVII coin and a certificate recognizing their selection. These coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

Raytown South defeated Winnetonka 42-0 to close out the regular season with a 7-2 record and earn a No. 2 seed in the district tournament. It was the most league game wins since the 2010 season. The Cardinals went from ending a 21-game losing streak in the 2021 season, to being one of the top seeds going into the 2023 postseason. Harris credits all of the work put in by everyone in the program.

"I think this award really highlights the work that these guys have put in in the past three years," Harris said. "I don't get this award if it isn't for the kids and coaches working their butts off."

Miege secured the Eastern Kansas League title with a 42-16 win over Blue Valley Northwest. The Stags stand at 7-1 heading into the postseason and are looking to repeat as Kansas Class 4A champions. At the start of this season, Holmes had to rebuild his team as many key players from last season had graduated; therefore, Holmes accepts this honor on behalf of the entire program.

"I am proud of our players and coaching staff for the work they put in each week," Holmes said. "This award is a result of their hard work and dedication they have shown throughout the season. The Bishop Miege Football program and community is honored to be recognized by the Kansas City Chiefs. Thank you for all you do to promote the game of football in the KC Metro."

In its 27th season, the 2023 High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.
