Chiefs Announce 2023 Week 3 High School Coaches of the Week

Kansas City Chiefs announce high school coaches of the week for Week 3 of the 2023 Season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Coach of the Week honors for the third week of the 2023 season. The Week Three awards go to St. Joseph Central Head Coach Regi Trotter (Missouri) and Washington Head Coach Camron Smith (Kansas).

As a result of this honor, the awarded schools will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, the coaches will be presented a pair of sunglasses, courtesy of Oakley, a congratulatory commemorative Super Bowl LVII coin and a certificate recognizing their selection. These coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

Last week, St. Joseph Central beat William Chrisman 52-20 to move to 4-0 on the season. It is the first 4-0 start for the school since 1986, and three of their wins this season have had a 20+ point win margin. Trotter dedicates this award to the entire Central community.

"We at Central want to thank the Kansas City Chiefs and PrepsKC for this tremendous honor," Trotter said. "Our program has been on a steady but tough incline and I love that we are being rewarded for our hard work and dedication. Our community appreciates this recognition, and we look forward to honoring it by playing and living with the Confidence, Accountability, and Toughness standards that make up our program."

In Kansas, Washington beat Bonner Springs 37-28 to earn its first win over the school since 2000. The Wildcats are now 3-0 for the first time since 2005. Smith accepts this honor on behalf of everyone in the Wildcats' program.

"Thanks so much for this tremendous honor," Smith said. "I have to admit it's pretty cool being recognized by the greatest football organization in the world. Although the award is named, 'Chiefs Coach of the Week,' I look at it like a full staff award. There is no way I'm receiving this recognition without my staff. Coaches Alfredo Bahena (DC/DBs), Derek Jones Jr. (STC/RBs), Myron Thomas (OL/DL), Kenny Powell Jr. (QBs/WRs), Clifton McFadden (LBs), and Caleb Diederich (Athletic Trainer) have worked alongside each other and myself to raise the standard within the Washington Wildcat Football Program."

In its 27th season, the 2023 High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.

The Kansas City Chiefs partner with PrepsKC to select Coaches of the Week from Missouri and Kansas each week.
