There are numerous high-profile "duos" across the league, from electric quarterback and wide receiver connections to defensive stars who work in tandem. According to the folks at CBS Sports, however, there's no better combination than the duo of Head Coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Reid and Mahomes landed at No. 1 in CBS Sports' recent rankings of the top 10 "duos" in the NFL, checking in immediately ahead of the Los Angeles Rams (defensive tackle Aaron Donald and cornerback Jalen Ramsey) and the Green Bay Packers (quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Head Coach Matt LaFleur) at the top of the list.
Here' what CBS Sports' Jared Dubin wrote about the Chiefs' duo:
"In four seasons together, Reid and Mahomes have gone to (and hosted) the AFC title game four times, winning two of them, along with one Super Bowl. They have finished those four seasons ranked first, sixth, first, and third in yards; first, fifth, sixth, and fourth in points; first, third, second, and third in DVOA; and first, second, third, and second in EPA per play. Mahomes is arguably the most talented quarterback to enter the league, Reid is one of the best coaches of his or any generation, and they have created one of the most consistently explosive and efficient offenses in recent memory."
Indeed, combinations like Reid and Mahomes simply don't come along very often. Reid, who owns the fifth-most total victories among all head coaches in NFL history, is destined for the Hall of Fame one day while Mahomes continues to assemble the greatest start to a career for any quarterback in league history.
It's no accident that Kansas City has won the most regular-season (50) and postseason (8) games of any team in the league since 2018, and with next season quickly approaching, the Chiefs' duo of Reid and Mahomes will look to keep that unprecedented run of success going in 2022.
