Over 100 rookies took the field for the Kansas City Chiefs over the weekend as the team completed its three-day Rookie Minicamp following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft.
The group of players in attendance – which totaled 104 – included all seven of the Chiefs' draft picks, 20 undrafted rookie free agent signees, one camp-eligible veteran and 76 rookie tryout players looking to make their mark.
"It's great to get these rookies [out] here, to meet them and to get to know them a little bit. We have a whole lot of them," said Head Coach Andy Reid. "It's a good group, and my hat goes off to them for learning the way they're learning and putting everything together where we can go out and have some good practices."
UPDATE: The Chiefs signed three tryout players on Monday: WR Xavier Loyd, DB Marlen Sewell and OT Kahlil Benson.
Indeed, the Chiefs' 76 rookie tryout players were the team's most in recent memory, but a year after finding linebacker Cooper McDonald – a tryout player who went on to appear in all 17 games – Kansas City is leaving no stone unturned.
"You always find two or three guys in that mix," Reid said. "The more guys you bring in, the better chance of finding a [player we might sign]."
With all of that in mind, here are some quick notes from the two days of practice that were open to the media:
- Wide receiver Cyrus Allen, a fifth-round pick, impressed with several catches on Day 1, including a strong reception over the middle amidst good coverage during 7-on-7 drills. Allen then followed up that performance with another strong practice on Day 2, tallying perhaps the play of the afternoon with a leaping, toe-tap grab near the sideline.
- Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, a seventh-round selection last week, completed 9-of-14 passes during the initial 11-on-11 period of practice on Day 1. He then followed that showing up by going 8-of-10 during 7-on-7 drills.
- Wide receiver Omari Evans, an undrafted free agent signee from Washington, was a standout on Day 1, hauling in multiple receptions. Notably, Evans – who ran a 4.28 40-yard dash at his pro day – made an over-the-shoulder catch deep down the sideline during an 11-on-11 portion of practice.
- Running back Jaydn Ott, an undrafted free agent signee from the University of California, had a busy practice on Day 1 with several carries and receptions.
- Wide receiver Jeff Caldwell, an undrafted free agent signee from Cincinnati, showed off his 4.31 speed and impressive length on Day 1 with a full-extension catch deep down the sideline during a 7-on-7 portion of practice.
- Cornerback Dub Washington, a tryout player from South Carolina State, recorded multiple pass-breakups on Day 1.
- Tight end Johnny Pascuzzi, a tryout player from Tulane who grew up in Kansas City and attended Rockhurst High School, put his best foot forward on Day 1 with multiple receptions.
- Wide receiver Xavier Loyd, a tryout player from Missouri who grew up in Blue Springs, made one of the top plays of the afternoon on Day 1 when he completed a diving reception over the middle of the field. It was one of several catches for Loyd on the day, which also included a tough grab deep down the sideline despite good coverage. Loyd was then back at it on Day 2, hauling in four passes. -- UPDATE: Loyd was signed to a contact on Monday.
- Safety Cam Smith, a tryout player from Marshall, tallied a pass-breakup over the middle during a 7-on-7 portion of practice on Day 1.
- Cornerback Mansoor Delane, the No. 6 overall pick in the draft, recorded a pass-breakup on a throw deep down the sideline during a 7-on-7 segment on Day 2.
- Defensive back Gavin Gibson, a tryout player from North Carolina, picked off a pass and ran it all the way back for a touchdown during 11-on-11 drills on Day 2.
- Tailback Emmett Johnson, a fifth-round pick, was active on Day 2 with multiple touches.
- Tight end Justin Holmes, a tryout player from the University of Pittsburgh, was busy on Day 2 with several catches.
- Cornerback Rico Hallman, a tryout player from Wisconsin, recorded a pass-breakup during an 11-on-11 session on Day 2.
