Chiefs Sign Three Tryout Players Following Rookie Camp

Three rookie free agents stood out among the rest over the weekend

The Kansas City Chiefs signed three rookie free agents on Monday following a successful tryout at last weekend's rookie camp.

It's a major achievement for all three players – wide receiver Xavier Loyd, defensive back Marlen Sewell and offensive tackle Kahlil Benson – as they managed to stand out among a group of 76 rookie tryout hopefuls who competed at the Chiefs' practice facility over the course of three days.

Loyd, who joins the Chiefs after an impressive weekend that included multiple receptions, is a native of the Kansas City area and an alum Blue Springs High School. Loyd spent time at Kansas State (2021-23) and Illinois State (2024) before wrapping up his career at Missouri in 2025, where he appeared in 13 games.

Sewell, who checks in at 6-foot-1 and 199 pounds, comes to Kansas City following a five-year career at Vanderbilt, where he appeared in 45 games. Notably, Sewell recorded 52 tackles, two passes defensed and 1.5 tackles-for-loss in 2025.

On the offensive line, Benson earned himself a contract last weekend after starting 12 games at right tackle for the eventual national champion Indiana Hoosiers in 2025. Benson yielded 24 pressures on 382 pass-blocking snaps during that time.

All three rookies will now have a chance to continue their journey as professional football players as the Chiefs' offseason training program kicks into high gear later this month.
