Chiefs to Bring Backyard Sports-Inspired Gameday to Arrowhead Stadium for Preseason Matchup Against Seattle

Fans Can Enjoy Interactive Activations, Themed Content, and a Special Appearance by Recognizable Character Pablo Sanchez

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs will bring the beloved world of Backyard Sports to Arrowhead Stadium when the club hosts the Seattle Seahawks during the 2026 preseason finale on Friday, August 28. The gameday thematic will spotlight Backyard Football, integrating the iconic football title's characters and visual style throughout the stadium experience, across digital platforms, and within game-week content.

The initiative is designed to connect with millennial parents who grew up with Backyard Sportsand now have the opportunity to share the franchise with their children. First introduced in the late 1990s, the Backyard Sports franchise became a cultural touchstone for a generation of fans. Following its recent revival, the franchise has returned with new game releases, content, and updated character designs, creating a natural bridge between the nostalgia parents remember and an experience today's young fans can discover for themselves.

"Backyard Sports holds a special place in the memories of many millennial parents, and that shared nostalgia gives us a meaningful way to connect with an important audience for the Chiefs," said Lauren Denowitz, Chiefs Vice President of Brand and Fan Engagement. "By bringing Backyard Football into the gameday experience, we can celebrate something parents grew up loving while giving them a fun opportunity to introduce it, along with Chiefs Kingdom, to their children."

Prior to kickoff, fans attending the game can visit a Backyard Football-themed activation in the Ford Tailgate District featuring gaming stations, giveaways, a football throwing game, and photo opportunities with iconic Backyard Sports character Pablo Sanchez. In addition, Pablo Sanchez will be available for photos with fans near Section 118 outside the Hall of Honor leading up to kickoff and throughout the first quarter. Inside Arrowhead Stadium, the Backyard Football aesthetic will be integrated into graphics, animations, video elements, and live moments throughout the game.

Throughout the week leading up to the game, fans will also see Backyard Football-inspired content across Chiefs digital and social channels, including game promotions and themed storytelling that connects the franchise's nostalgic appeal with its modern revival while building excitement for gameday.
