The Kansas City Chiefs made an addition to their secondary on Thursday night, trading up for the right to select former LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Here are five things to know about the newest member of the secondary.

1. Delane was a unanimous All-American at LSU last season.

The 22-year-old Delane was among the top corners in all of college football in 2025, tallying 13 passes defensed and two interceptions while allowing just 14 catches on 357 coverage snaps. In terms of the advanced metrics, Pro Football Focus ranked him as the second-best coverage cornerback in the FBS (among corners with at least 350 coverage snaps).

It's worth adding that he did all of that despite battling a core muscle injury for much of the season.

It was a strong conclusion to an incredible career for Delane, who spent three years at Virginia Tech before transferring to LSU ahead of last year. Notably, Delane logged 18 passes defensed over his final 23 games.

2. He allowed zero touchdowns and committed zero penalties in 2025.

Delane's stellar campaign in 2025 can be summed up by the simple fact that he yielded zero touchdowns without committing a single penalty.

Among cornerbacks with at least 350 coverage snaps last season, Delane was one of just 18 to not allow a single touchdown, and of that group, Delane was one of only two players to also not commit a penalty all year.

3. Delane is durable, starting 40 games in his collegiate career.

The 6-foot-tall, 182-pound Delane was as reliable as he was effective at the college level, starting 40 games – and logging more than 2,400 snaps – over the last four seasons.

That stretch included at least 11 starts in each of the last three years.

4. He was primary an outside corner during his time in college.

Delane was almost exclusively an outside corner across his time at Virginia Tech and LSU, recording 95% of his career snaps on the outside. He expressed his availability to play all over the Chiefs' defense, however, when asked about his versatility on Thursday.

Specifically, here's what Delane said in regard to potentially manning the slot in Kansas City:

"[I'm] super comfortable [in the slot]. I love playing inside – I think that's almost even more fun," Delane said. "You're closer to the ball, you're in more runs fits and you can blitz more. I think the more responsibly, the more fun it is. I'm excited."

5. Delane is originally from Maryland.

A native of Maryland who grew up just outside of Washington D.C, Delane attended a pair of high schools – first Landon School and then Archbishop Spalding – where he established himself as one of the top prospects in the state.

He eventually landed at the University of Maryland before wrapping up his collegiate career at LSU, and now all these years later, Delane is headed to Kansas City.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected LSU CB Mansoor Delane in the 1st Round (Pick 6) of the 2026 NFL Draft.
