Here's a Look at the Chiefs 2025 "Reserve/Future" Signees as OTAs Begin

The Chiefs signed a handful of players before the offseason got underway

Organized Team Activities (OTAs) are underway at the team facility as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the 2025 campaign, and among the 91 players currently on the Chiefs' roster are 10 players who signed with Kansas City prior to the onset of the new league year on March 12.

Those players, who are listed below, joined the Chiefs through "Reserve/Future" contacts, which are specialized deals meant for players who were not on an active roster when the previous season came to an end. That pool of eligible players included those who were on practice squads – including Kansas City's practice squad – at the conclusion on the 2024 campaign, which is why many of the Chiefs' "Reserve/Future" signees may look familiar.

These deals officially began when the new league year kicked off on March 12, and while some of the Chiefs' 15 initial "Reserve/Future" signees were either waived or released in recent weeks, 10 still remain with the team.

A more detailed breakdown of each player can be found below, but for quick reference, here's a look at the 10 players who signed "Reserve/Future" deals and who remain with the team as of May 27. Players are sorted alphabetically:

WR Jason Brownlee

S Deon Bush

OT Chukwuebuka Godrick

DT Siaki Ika

DT Fabien Lovett

QB Chris Oladokun

WR Justyn Ross

CB Darius Rush

DB Eric Scott

WR Tyquan Thornton

And here's a more detailed breakdown of all 10 players who joined the Chiefs as "Reserve/Future" signees back in February.

Wide Receiver Jason Brownlee

The 6-foot-3, 202-pound Brownlee appeared in seven games for the New York Jets in 2023 after making the team as an undrafted free agent that summer. He caught five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown in that time. Brownlee then spent the 2024 season on the Jets' practice squad and did not appear in a game.

Before jumping to the NFL, Brownlee racked up 135 catches for 2,144 yards and 21 touchdowns in three seasons at Southern Mississippi from 2020-22.

Safety Deon Bush

Bush is back for his fourth season with Kansas City after spending last season on the practice squad (and appearing in two games).

The veteran safety has appeared in 31 games (including the playoffs) for Kansas City over the last three years, contributing mainly as a core special teamer. He ranked second on the Chiefs in special teams snaps in 2022 (with 317), and while he only appeared in eight regular-season games over the last two seasons, Bush was on the field for at least 60% of the Chiefs' special teams snaps in all but one of those games.

Bush has also made the most of his defensive snaps during his time with the Chiefs, notably when he picked off Ravens' quarterback Lamar Jackson in the 2023-24 AFC Championship Game.

Offensive Tackle Chukwuebuka Godrick

Godrick is back with the Chiefs after spending each of the last two seasons on Kansas City's practice squad. A native of Nigeria, Godrick joined the Chiefs in 2023 through the NFL International Player Pathway Program. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound lineman is a former basketball player who impressed at the inaugural NFL Africa camp in Ghana before earning an invitation to the International Combine in London soon after.

Since 2017, the NFL IPP has sought to provide elite athletes from around the world with an opportunity to earn a spot on an NFL roster and increase the number of international players in the league.

Defensive Tackle Siaki Ika

A third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2023 NFL Draft, Ika went on to appear in four games for the Browns that year. He then spent time on Cleveland and Philadelphia's practice squads last season before joining the Chiefs' practice squad in early December.

A big man at 6-foot-2 and 335 pounds, Ika was the No. 71 overall player in the 2023 draft class according to The Athletic's Dane Brugler, who wrote the following about Ika in his pre-draft guide:

"Ika is a toolsy size prospect with a high floor as an early down NFL nose while also flashing the ability to be more."

Still just 24 years old, Ika will aim to seize a new opportunity in Kansas City.

Defensive Tackle Fabien Lovett

Lovett spent last season on the Chiefs' practice squad after signing with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent. He didn't appear in a game last year.

Prior to joining the Chiefs, the 6-foot-3, 316-pound Lovett appeared in 54 games (31 starts) over six seasons between Mississippi State (2018-19) and Florida State (2020-23). He was a team captain in 2023 for the Seminoles, serving as "an important cog on the defensive line" according to The Athletic's Dane Brugler, who projected Lovett as a fifth or sixth-round pick in his pre-draft guide.

Here's more from Brugler:

"Lovett is stout at contact with the God-given length and power to continue getting better as a pass rusher. He has a scheme -versatile skill set and projects as a rotational interior lineman."

Quarterback Chris Oladokun

Oladokun returns to Kansas City for a fourth year after spending each of the last three seasons on the Chiefs' practice squad. Oladokun, who has often been credited for his work as the scout team quarterback, made his regular-season debut in Week 18 of last year.

Prior to his career in the NFL, Oladokun spent time at the University of South Florida (2016-18), Samford University (2019-20) and South Dakota State (2021). His final season was perhaps his best, as Oladokun threw for 3,164 yards and 25 touchdowns in 15 games for the Jackrabbits. He also demonstrated an ability to be an effective dual-threat quarterback during his collegiate career, notably racking up nearly 500 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns for Samford in 2019.

Wide Receiver Justyn Ross

Ross is back with the Chiefs after appearing in 12 games over the last two seasons. He spent the majority of last season on Kansas City's practice squad, appearing in two games between Week 9 and Week 10.

Still just 25 years old, Ross will have an opportunity this offseason to showcase the immense talent he showed during his time at Clemson, where he was one of the best players in all of college football.

Cornerback Darius Rush

A fifth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in the 2023 NFL Draft, Rush has spent the majority of the last two seasons on the Chiefs' practice squad.

He has yet to play in a game for the Chiefs, but he logged five appearances for the Steelers over the last two years in-between stints on Kansas City's practice squad.

Defensive Back Eric Scott

A native of Basehor, Kansas and an alum of Basehor-Linwood High School, Scott spent the entirety of the 2024 campaign on the Chiefs' practice squad.

Prior to going pro, Scott played collegiately at Illinois State (2017-18), Butler Community College (2019) and Southern Mississippi (2020-22). He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round (No. 178 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft, but didn't appear in a game for Dallas that year.

Scott tallied two passes defensed and an interception during the preseason in 2024 before the Cowboys waived him in August, leading to his signing with the Chiefs a few days later.

Wide Receiver Tyquan Thornton

Thornton is back with Kansas City after signing with the Chiefs' practice squad last November. A second-round pick by the New England Patriots in the 2022 NFL Draft, Thornton caught 39 passes for 385 yards and two touchdowns in 28 games for New England over the last three seasons.

Thornton's best trait is his elite vertical speed, as he ran the third-fastest 40-yard dash of any player at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine (4.28 seconds).
