Kansas City Chiefs Season Recap on DraftKings Sportsbook

Steve Buchanan breaks down some standout performances from the 2022-23 season

Despite playing in a loaded AFC West, the Chiefs, as expected according to the NFL odds on DraftKings Sportsbook, prevailed as the division winners. Before the season began, the Chiefs boasted +175 odds to take down the division despite numerous big moves to their counterparts. Snapping off five wins in a row to end the regular season, the odds on favorite Chiefs are headed to the playoffs with a 14-3 record and a perfect 6-0 record within the division. Let's take a look at some of the moneymakers for bettors from DraftKings Sportsbook from the regular season.

Patrick Mahomes to have over 399.5 passing yards in at least 2 regular season games +140

Not only did this bet hit, but it occurred in back-to-back games for the Chiefs in Weeks 7 & 9. The first game of at least 400 passing yards came against a strong 49ers defense in the 44-23 win for the Chiefs. On 34 pass attempts, Mahomes completed 25 for 423 yards. Three different receivers had a reception of over 30 yards in this one, with Jerick McKinnon going for 34, JuJu Smith-Schuster with 45 yards, and Marquez Valdez-Scantling with 57. Those three receptions in themselves accounted for 32% of his total passing yards in the game.

His second game to hit this bet came after the Chiefs' bye week in a 20-17 overtime win against the Titans. If it wasn't for overtime, this bet would not have hit. Mahomes added 69 passing yards during overtime to put add to his 377 in regulation, and put him over the 400-yard passing mark. With this game luckily going that route, Mahomes would end with 446 passing yards with a ridiculous 68 pass attempts. That overtime drive solidified a win closer to their 10.5 season win total and a cash on this prop bet for bettors.

Chiefs over 10.5 wins

The Chiefs cashed the over on their win total during Week 15 in a 30-24 win over the Texans. This game went to the half with the Texans holding onto a slight one-point lead at 14-13. The Texans scored in every quarter except overtime, which gave the Chiefs the eventual win and cashing the over. The Chiefs would run the table for the remainder of the regular season, scoring no less than 24 per game and holding their opponents for an average of 15.6 points in the final three games.

Their five-game win streak not only solidified them atop the AFC West but also cashed a straight forecast of the division for first and second-place teams. Placing a bet for the Chiefs to finish first and the Chargers to place second was priced at +210. The Chargers didn't have much competition behind them despite plenty of hype for both the Raiders and Broncos. They finished third and fourth with a 6-11 and 5-12 record, respectively.

JuJu Smith-Schuster over 750.5 receiving yards -120

Even after missing a game during the regular season, Smith-Schuster blew past his receiving yard total. Ending the year with 933 receiving yards, this prop never stood a chance. Averaging over 58 yards per game, Smith-Schuster drew 101 targets, marking the third time in his career he drew over 100 targets in a season. On those targets, he made 78 catches, which would average out to 12 yards per reception. The over on this prop hit during Week 14 against the Broncos, as he ended that game with 74 yards and a total of 762 on the year.

Despite playing on a new team and needing to develop chemistry with Mahomes, the under on this total looked to be in trouble early. When the Chiefs headed to their bye week after Week 7, Smith-Schuster had already collected 494 receiving yards, which was 65% of the needed amount to go over. In a pass-heavy offense like the Chiefs, as you know, this was an easy win for bettors.

Chiefs Playoff Future Bets

With number one seed in the AFC playoffs, the Chiefs had the luxury of kicking back and letting the rest of the league battle it out during their bye week. On DraftKings Sportsbook, there are still plenty of ways to be involved in some Chiefs' futures bets.
