2015 NFL Draft: Will Chiefs Break the Trend at No. 18?

The Chiefs hold the No. 18 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft

The 2015 NFL Draft order was announced on Tuesday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a total of 10 picks in the draft, which begins on Thursday, April 30 in Chicago, Illinois.

The first round is Thursday night, with rounds two and three on Friday, May 1, and rounds four through seven on Saturday, May 2.

The Chiefs have been active so far this offseason in free agency, signing wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, offensive lineman Paul Fanaika, safety Tyvon Branch, while trading for OL Ben Grubbs and re-signing defensive back Ron Parker, WR Jason Avant, tight end Richard Gordon and DB Kelcie McCray.

These moves will help the Chiefs stick to their overall philosophy when it comes to the draft.

"It gives you full freedom," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said at the NFL Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. "It doesn't back you into a corner going into the draft. You can go in and you can take the best player.

"That kind of sticks with your philosophy."

Over the past 10 years, the teams selecting at No. 18 have believed that a defensive player was the best player available in eight of the 10 drafts.

Since 2005, the only offensive players to be drafted No. 18 overall have been Pittsburgh Steelers OL Maurkice Pouncey in 2010 and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco in 2008.

With a historically heavy defensive presence at No. 18, will the Chiefs break that trend in 2015?

In the latest Mock Draft Roundup, the experts have the Chiefs taking an offensive player in 10 of the 12 mocks (Six - WR, Four - OL).

The only two who believe the Chiefs will go defense right now are NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah, who selected Texas defensive lineman Malcom Brown, and NFL.com's Lance Zierlein, who selected Alabama S Landon Collins.
