Chiefs Announce High School Coaches Of The Week For Week Two Of The 2025 Season

North Kansas City High School Head Coach Dan Joiner And Piper High School Head Coach Cole Orrick Are The First Coaches Of The Week For The 2025 Season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Monday, Sept. 15, the Kansas City Chiefs announced their first two Coach of the Week recipients for the 2025 season.

North Kansas City High School Head Coach Dan Joiner (Missouri) and Piper High School Head Coach Cole Orrick (Kansas) are the first two selections for their team's performances in the opening two weeks of the high school football season. This weekly honor aims to recognize Kansas City area head coaches for their success on the field and leadership off the field.

As part of their recognition, both coaches will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation, a Chiefs bucket hat, a certificate of recognition and a custom game ball. Both coaches also qualify for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which is selected at the end of the high school regular season by a panel from the Missouri and Kansas Boards of the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

Joiner's North Kansas City Hornets went 2-0 to start their season after knocking off the Park Hill Trojans 69-51 on the road. In his second season, Joiner's offense averaged 62.5 points per game in their first 2-0 start since 2022.

"We are very grateful to be named Kansas City Coach of the Week," Joiner said. "This award can be attributed to extremely hard work by the Hornets players and coaching staff."

Piper head coach Cole Orrick had his team off to a hot start with a strong win over Topeka-Seaman 31-22 in their season opener. Orrick's Pirates had a strong offensive showing, rushing for 277 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. A native of Overland Park, Kansas, he spent five years coaching in Dallas, Texas at Life School Oak Cliff where he became their head coach in 2021 at the age of 26. Orrick is in his second season at Piper after being named head coach in January 2024.

"It's an honor to be named the Chiefs Coach of the Week," Orrick said. "This award belongs to the entire coaching staff for the work they have put in this year and to all the players for playing hard and executing at a high level. I also want to thank our administration, who has been extremely supportive of our program. We are proud of the progress we have made so far and are excited for the rest of the season."

Now in its 29th year, The High School Coach of the Week program is a joint initiative between the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. In addition to highlighting head coaches for their team's performance, this award honors individuals who make a difference in the lives of high school student-athletes by preparing them for life beyond football.
