Chiefs to gamble on defense

By Jeffri Chadiha

Excerpt from ESPN.com

"First the Kansas City Chiefs surprised most people by selecting Auburn defensive end Dee Ford in the first round of the NFL draft. Then last Friday, they made their second stunning move of the offseason with the release of Pro Bowl cornerback Brandon Flowers.

There's an undeniable statement in these decisions, one that goes far beyond talent and money. Andy Reid not sure if Justin Houston will attend minicamp

By Josh Alper

Excerpt from Pro Football Talk

"The Chiefs had two veteran defensive players missing from OTAs this year and they know that one of them won't be back for this week's mandatory minicamp after releasing cornerback Brandon Flowers last week.

Houston's plans for this week's minicamp, the only mandatory event of the offseason, are unclear but he has some financial incentive to show. The Chiefs can fine Houston a total of $60,000 if he declines to attend any part of the minicamp.

Other than they both had declined to participate in offseason practice, the issues involving Flowers and Houston are different. Flowers had a big contract but didn't like how he was being utilized in the Chiefs' defense. Houston, a Pro Bowler in two of his three NFL seasons, is fine with his role…" READ MORE…
