A Historical Look at the Chiefs' Fourth-Round Draft Picks

In 1967, a system called the "common draft" was implemented for the AFL and NFL. In this system, the two leagues held a joint draft for college players. The "common draft" existed until 1969 as the AFL and NFL would officially merge in 1970.

The following is a list of the 48 players the Chiefs have drafted in the fourth round since 1967:

The Chiefs have drafted one future All-Pro, defensive lineman Jared Allen (2004), in the fourth round. Allen has been named an All-Pro four times (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011).

The Chiefs have drafted three future Pro Bowlers, Jack Rudnay (1969), Donnie Edwards (1996) and Jared Allen (2004) in the fourth round.

The positions linebackerand wide receiver are tied for the two most popular positions in the fourth round. The Chiefs have drafted 10 players of each position since 1967.

The Chiefs have drafted more players in the fourth round from TCU (3) than any other college in the country since 1967: Mickey McCarty (1968), Stan Petry (1989) and George Layne (2001).

Five Chiefs fourth-round picks are still active in the league today: De'Anthony Thomas (2014), Nico Johnson (2013), Devon Wylie (2012), Jalil Brown (2011) and Jared Allen (2004).
