The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up offseason workouts with their final minicamp practice of the year Thursday afternoon at the University of Kansas Health System training complex.
Following what turned out to be a brief practice that lasted less than an hour, the players went through a conditioning test, which head coach Andy Reid says went well.
"The guys did a nice job on their run," Reid noted when speaking with the media afterwards. "They're in pretty good shape—even the big guys."
The team will then have the same conditioning test when they report to training camp in late July.
Overall, Reid likes what the team was able to accomplish over the last three days at their mandatory minicamp.
"We had a good camp," Reid said. "It was productive—most productive probably with the young guys, the improvement that they made. All the rookies took steps forward. In today's world and today's NFL, those guys, in some cases, are going to contribute for us, so it's important to stay right on top of that.
"It's also important that when they leave here, that they don't lose that, so we put a big emphasis on that. We'll stay on top of it so when they come back, [they don't] have to start from scratch."
A look at the second day of Chiefs Minicamp
Earlier this offseason, Reid said he’s embracing the high expectations for the team this year.
Coming off a 12-win season, an AFC West title and a second consecutive trip to the divisional round of the AFC playoffs, there's reason to feel good about what's possible this season. * *
"They're willing to teach each other," Reid explained of this group. "They're hard on each other and the coaches try to be demanding with them, and they seem to respond to that, which is good. Some of the other teams have backed away from that, and it hasn't been that way since I've been here and it doesn't seem like this group's that way at all."
When asked what's the plan for training camp, Reid said it's about taking another step forward.
"Taking our game up a notch here," Reid said. "We've done OK, OK, the last few years, but we're not satisfied here, at all."
