KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Coach of the Week honors for the sixth week of the 2023 season. The Week Six awards go to North Platte's Head Coach Jared Quigley (Missouri) and Olathe East's Head Coach Courtney Porter (Kansas).
As a result of this honor, the awarded schools will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, the coaches will be presented a pair of sunglasses, courtesy of Oakley, a congratulatory commemorative Super Bowl LVII coin and a certificate recognizing their selection. These coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.
North Platte beat Lawson 28-14 to improve to 6-1 on the season. The Panthers have matched their win total from last season and are currently leading District 3 of the Missouri Class 1. Quigley attributes this award to the work over the last two seasons to build the program.
"The North Platte Football Program would first and foremost like to thank the Kansas City Chiefs organization for providing such a special opportunity to recognize our city's high school football teams." Quigley said. "We would also like to extend a huge thank you to PrepsKC for their continued coverage and support for all athletics in the greater KC area."
Olathe East improved to 4-2 on the season with a 42-14 win over Olathe West. The Hawks now have more wins this season than the last two years combined. Porter credits this award to the work put in by his team and coaches.
"I am honored to be recognized by Preps KC and the Chiefs," Porter said. "I am surrounded by great people at Olathe East. Our kids and our coaching staff put in a tremendous amount of work."
In its 27th season, the 2023 High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.
