KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Wednesday, Oct. 15, the Kansas City Chiefs announced their Week 7 Coach of the Week recipients for the 2025 season.
Clinton High School Head Coach Jake Vencill (Missouri) and Leavenworth High School Head Coach Sean Sachen (Kansas) are the Chiefs Week 7 selections for their teams' performances in the sixth week of the high school football season. This weekly honor aims to recognize Kansas City-area head coaches for their success on the field and leadership off the field.
As part of their recognition, both coaches will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation, a Chiefs bucket hat, a certificate of recognition and a custom game ball. Both coaches also qualify for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which is selected at the end of the high school regular season by a panel from the Missouri and Kansas Boards of the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.
The Clinton Cardinals are off to their best start since 2007, defeating the Harrisonville Wildcats 20-13 on Oct. 10 on the road. Clinton held Harrisonville to 274 yards of total offense and picked off the Wildcats once. The Cardinals' offense totaled 238 yards on the ground on 38 carries. Clinton looks to close out their home slate undefeated as they take on the Warrensburg Tigers on Oct. 17.
"I'm truly honored to be named Chiefs Coach of the Week," Vencill said. "This recognition is a reflection of the incredible dedication of our coaching staff, the hard work of our players, and the support of our school and community. I couldn't be prouder of this team and the effort they've put into working toward our goals and earning the success we're seeing this season.
Vencill is in his first season with the Cardinals with 17 years of prior experience. Previously, he was the head coach at his alma mater, Windsor High School in Imperial, Missouri, where he spent six seasons and coached the Owls to a 2020 Class 1 State Championship, three district titles, and three state quarterfinals appearances. Vencill was named KMZU Class 1 Coach of the Year in 2020 after his team's state championship win.
The Leavenworth Pioneers defeated the De Soto Wildcats 27-14 on Oct. 10 on the road going 5-1 heading into the final two games of the season. This was The Pioneers first ever win over the Wildcats and their best six-game record since 1973. On Oct. 17, Leavenworth will travel to West High School with hopes to close out its road slate undefeated.
"I think that receiving this award speaks to the dedication, hard work, and talent of our group of kids," Sachen said. "We are so humbled and proud to be honored with this award as it recognizes our program, coaching staff, school, and the Leavenworth community."
Sachen has led the Pioneers since 2019. Last season, Sachen coached Leavenworth to a 6-4 record, reaching the second round of the playoffs.
He was previously the head coach for the Immaculata Raiders in Leavenworth, Kansas, a position he held for nine seasons.
Now in its 29th year, The High School Coach of the Week program is a joint initiative between the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. In addition to highlighting head coaches for their team's performance, this award honors individuals who make a difference in the lives of high school student-athletes by preparing them for life beyond football.
