Chiefs Begin "Phase 1" of the Offseason Training Program

Kansas City kicked off the offseason training program on Monday

The Kansas City Chiefs took one step closer to football on Monday as the team kicked off the voluntary offseason training program at the team facility.

"Phase 1" of the program, which spans two weeks, is limited to meetings, strength training, conditioning, and physical rehabilitation before the on-field work begins in mid-May. Additionally, in contrast to recent years, this portion of the program will take place at the team facility rather than virtually.

"We're fired up to get the guys back in the building. We had a nice turnout today, which I appreciate," said Head Coach Andy Reid. "This is a time when the players can meet with their coaches and lift weights. There're no coaches on the field, but the [players] can go out and throw – the receivers and quarterbacks."

In regard to quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who continues to rehabilitate from the knee injury that ended his 2025 season, Reid provided an update on the three-time Super Bowl MVP's progress.

"He goes to meetings and he can lift – all of that," Reid said. "That's the phase he's in right now. We'll just see and play it by ear [in regard to next steps]. He's doing great, but we have to be smart with this thing."

The onset of "Phase 1" also coincides with the upcoming NFL Draft, which kicks off on Thursday night. It's all to say that there's plenty of activity at One Arrowhead Drive at the moment, and Coach Reid – who sported an infectious smile throughout Monday's presser – appears to be loving every moment of it.

"I enjoy doing what I'm doing. I feel very privileged and honored to be able to do it," Reid said. "I'm around good people, I love the new additions – whether it's coaches or players – and now we get to bring in some more guys."

The NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday night at 7 pm CT.
