Chiefs Fans Select New Touchdown Celebration Song for Arrowhead Stadium

Local artist’s "Hey, Kansas City!" receives 45.9% of votes

After 11 days of online and in-app voting on www.chiefs.com, www.chiefskingdomrewards.com and the Chiefs Mobile app, Chiefs Kingdom has spoken and "Hey, Kansas City!" by David George & A Crooked Mile has been selected as the new touchdown celebration song at Arrowhead Stadium.

"Hey, Kansas City!" earned 45.9% of the total vote. "Let Me Clear my Throat" by DJ Kool, accounted for 31.9% of the vote while "Song 2" by Blur received 22.2% of the vote.

"First and foremost, it is an honor to even be considered for this opportunity. To then have the Chiefs fans vote for "Hey, Kansas City!" to be the new touchdown song is unimaginable," George said. "I am overwhelmed and humbled by the endorsement of the great fans who voted for the song and I am extremely appreciative of their support!"

While switching to a new touchdown song is a shift from what many in Chiefs Kingdom have come to enjoy over the years, with the help of the local songwriter, David George, the new touchdown song will include Chiefs fans' beloved "You, You, You" fan chant.

"Much of the feedback we received from Chiefs fans was that they wanted to retain the feeling and intimidation factor that comes when 75,000-plus fans chant in unison," Donovan said. "Because the fan chant is not part of the Gary Glitter song and was added by Chiefs fans, we asked David George to incorporate that element in the beat of the new song. We think this addition to the new touchdown song will deliver that traditional aspect of Arrowhead touchdowns that our fans love."

The fan vote began on Friday, August 21 when it was announced the organization was moving away from the current in-stadium touchdown celebration song. The team alternated playing each of the three options after touchdowns in both preseason home games – vs. Seattle on Friday, August 21 and vs. Tennessee on Friday, August 28.

Fans were limited to one vote per day on the website and app. When voting through their Chiefs Kingdom Rewards account, members received 50 points per day when they submitted a vote.

David George & A Crooked Mile will perform a free concert for Chiefs fans in the Ford Fan Experience at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, before kickoff.
