The offseason training program continues to roll along at One Arrowhead Drive as the Kansas City Chiefs completed another week of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on Wednesday.
This portion of the offseason training program, which is called "Phase 3," is significant because it allows foroffensive vs. defensive drills to take place for the first time since last season ended. There's no contact or live hitting occurring at these practices, but it still represents a major step forward in the Chiefs' preparation for the upcoming season.
Each team is allowed to host 10 voluntary OTA practices under "Phase 3" rules before wrapping up the offseason training program with mandatory minicamp, which kicks off on June 17.
In the meantime, here's a quick rundown of what stood out during Wednesday's practice:
- Cornerback Trent McDuffie recorded an interception off a deflection during team drills
- Tight end Noah Gray hauled in an impressive catch down the middle of the field during a 7-on-7 period
- Wide receiver Xavier Worthy had a busy day with several receptions
- Cornerback Nohl Williams jumped a route and picked off a pass during a team period
- Tight end Jake Briningstool made perhaps the play of the day when he hauled in a leaping catch up the seam despite excellent coverage during team drills
- Wide receiver Mac Dalena tallied a catch deep down the sideline during 7-on-7
- Wide receiver Jimmy Holiday made a tough, over-the-shoulder catch in-stride down the sideline during a 7-on-7 period
- Defensive end George Karlaftis continued his strong offseason training program with another great practice. The edge rushers are limited in what they can really show during these sorts of practices, but in terms of first-step quickness and speed around the edge, Karlaftis was outstanding on Wednesday.
