Kansas City leads Cincinnati, 16-9, at Halftime

Rookie running back Kareem Hunt has 11 touches for 63 yards in the first half of action

The Kansas City Chiefs are leading the Cincinnati Bengals, 16-9, at halftime at Paul Brown Stadium in the second week of preseason action.

Alex Smith completed eight of nine passes for 83 yards and a touchdown, finding tight end Demetrius Harris from five yards out for the score early in the second quarter.

Rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes  took over under center with seven minutes left in the half, completing four of five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown, also finding Harris. Mahomes chipped in 18 yards on the ground, including a 14-yard scramble.

Rookie running back Kareem Hunt was the story of the first half, rushing for 40 yards on eight carries along with three catches for 23 yards.  

Tight end Travis Kelce, who returned to the field on Saturday night after missing the preseason opener on Aug. 11, hauled in a 36-yard pass from Smith on the Chiefs second drive for his first catch of the preseason.
