Ken Clemens and Jon Holmes Named Chiefs High School Coaches of the Week

Clemens coaches at Liberty North High School in Missouri and Holmes coaches at Bishop Miege High School in Kansas

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Missouri and Kansas High School Coach of the Week honors for this past week. Liberty North High School's Ken Clemens (Missouri) and Bishop Miege High School's Jon Holmes (Kansas) each received this honor after a strong performance by their respective teams this past week.

As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 grant. Additionally, Clemens and Holmes will be presented with congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection. Each coach is now a finalist for their state's Chiefs Coach of the Year Award.

Liberty North pulled off one of its biggest wins of the season, topping Fort Osage 21-14. The loss was the first of the season for Fort Osage. It also ended the Indians' 28-game regular season winning streak dating back to the 2012 season. Clemens said he feels this award should go to everyone involved with the program.

"Thank you to the Chiefs," Clemens said. "But I would re-phrase it as the staff or team of the week. This staff prepared the kids well, and the kids played their hearts out against a great football team."

Bishop Miege moved to 5-1 on the season by beating Blue Valley Southwest 64-14. The win was the Stags third straight as they head into district play this week. Holmes said this award is as much for his assistants as it is for him.

"This award means a lot to our program," Holmes said "The assistant coaches deserve all the credit, they work hard to put our players in a position to win on game night. It is fun to sit back and watch them work on Friday nights. The way our kids go out and execute game plans each week is also fun to see. They want to win and have great trust in our staff to get it done each week."

The 2015 High School Coach of the Week program is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis. The Chiefs Coach of the Week program is intended to honor individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders. Each state's winner is selected in collaboration with PrepsKC.
