Looking Back: Chiefs Sixth-Round Draft Picks

Revisiting the team's sixth-round draft choices of the last two decades

The 2014 NFL Draft is just weeks away, beginning with the first round on May 8, rounds two and three on May 9th and rounds four through seven on Saturday, May 10th. As we continue our look back at 20 years of Chiefs draft history, today's focus is on the sixth-round picks by the team, as well as stats from the players' rookie seasons.

A look at some of the Chiefs 6th round draft selections, during the last 20 years.

2013 NFL Draft

OL Eric Kush - 6th Rd. - Comp. pick for '12 free agent losses (170th overall) - California (PA)

Kush played in two games (one start) on offense and one game on special teams in 2013.

Braden Wilson - 6th Rd. - Comp. pick for '12 free agent losses (204th overall) - Kansas St.

Wilson was released by the team, before the 2013 regular season began.

2012 NFL Draft RB Cyrus Gray - 6th Rd. - Pick #12 (182nd overall) - Texas A&M

During his rookie season, Gray played in 10 games on special teams and four on offense, recording seven rushes for 44 yards (6.3 avg.), two receptions for 18 yards and three special teams tackles.

2011 NFL Draft

DT Jerrell Powe - 6th Rd. - Comp. pick for '10 free agent losses (199th overall) - Mississippi

Powe played in one game as a reserve in 2011, making his NFL debut at New England (11/21).

2010 NFL Draft

The Chiefs sent their 6th-rd. selection (173rd overall) to Miami in the 2009 trade for C/G Andy Alleman and G/T Ikechuku Ndukwe.

2009 NFL Draft

CB Quinten Lawrence - 6th Rd. - Pick #2 (175th overall) - McNeese State

In 2009, Lawrence played in six games (one start) and totaled two carries for 42 yards, one reception for nine yards and he returned 16 kickoffs for 317 yards.

2008 NFL Draft

T Barry Richardson - 6th Rd. - Pick #4 (170th overall) - Clemson

In 2008, Richardson played in six games, before playing three more seasons with the Chiefs, as well as one season each for the St. Louis Rams (2012) and the Detroit Lions (2013).

WR Kevin Robinson - 6th Rd. - Pick #16 (182nd overall) - Utah State

In Robinson's only season with the team, he played in eight games and totaled 11 punt returns for 94 yards and 19 kickoff returns for 420 yards.

2007 NFL Draft

T - Herb Taylor - 6th Rd. - Pick #22 (196th overall) - TCU

Taylor played in two games in 2007, before playing in 16 games in 2008 and later resuming his career in 2012, with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

2006 NFL Draft

G Tre Stallings - 6th Rd. - Pick # 17 (186th overall) - Mississippi

Stallings played one season for the Chiefs and saw action in one game.

WR Jeff Webb - 6th Rd. - Pick #21 (190th overall) - San Diego State

Webb played in 10 games in 2006 and caught three passes for 23 yards. He returned seven kickoffs for 169 yards and recorded one fumble recovery.

2005 NFL Draft

T Will Svitek - 6th Rd. - Pick #13 (187th overall) - Stanford

Svitek played in one game in 2005, before spending two more seasons with the Chiefs, later continuing his career with the Atlanta Falcons in 2009.

LB Khari Long - 6th Rd. - Pick #25 (199th overall) - Baylor

Long played in one-career game for the Chiefs in 2005.

2004 NFL Draft

WR Jeris McIntyre - 6th Rd. - Pick #30 (195th overall) - Auburn

McIntyre did not play in an NFL game.

2003 NFL Draft

DE Jimmy Wilkerson - 6th Rd. - Pick #16 (189th overall) - Oklahoma

Wilkerson joined the team in 2003 and played in 12 games, recording six tackles, three assists and one kickoff return for zero yards. He spent four more years with the Chiefs, before playing two years for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and one season (2010) with the New Orleans Saints. Wilkerson also played in the '03 playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts.

2002 NFL Draft

The Chiefs sent their 6th-Rd. pick (183rd overall) to St. Louis in the 2001 QB Joe Germaine trade.

2001 NFL Draft

G Alex Sulfsted - 6th Rd. - Pick #13 (176th overall) - Miami (OH)

Sulsted did not play for the Chiefs; he continued his career with the Washington Redskins in 2002 and followed two years later by a season with the Cincinnati Bengals (2004).

2000 NFL Draft

T Darnell Alford - 6th Rd. - Pick #22 (188th overall) - Boston College

Alford played in one game for the Chiefs in 2000, followed by two games in 2001.

The Chiefs traded a 6th-Rd. pick to the St. Louis Rams in the 1999 TE Mitch Jacoby trade.

In 1999, Jacoby played in five games for the Chiefs and caught one pass for six yards.

1999 NFL Draft

The Chiefs traded their 6th-Rd. pick to Tampa Bay in the '98 S Melvin Johnson trade.

1998 NFL Draft

DT Derrick Ransom - 6th Rd. - Pick #28 (181st overall) - Cincinnati

Ransom played in seven games in 1998, recording one tackle and a kickoff return (fair catch). He played four more seasons for the Chiefs, before joining the Arizona Cardinals in 2003 and later, the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2004.

1997 NFL Draft

The Chiefs sent their 6th-Rd. pick as part of a package deal to Houston in exchange for Houston's first-round pick, used to draft TE Tony Gonzalez), and fourth-round pick (QB Pat Barnes).

WR Isaac Byrd - 6th Rd. - Comp. pick for '96 free agent losses (195th overall) - Kansas

Byrd's six-year career didn't include the Chiefs; he played three seasons (1997-99) with the Titans and three seasons with the Panthers (2000-02).

1996 NFL Draft

The Chiefs obtained Carolina's 6th-Rd. pick (Jells) in exchange for the Chiefs '95 6th-Rd. pick.

WR Dietrich Jells - 6th Rd. - Pick #9 (176th overall) - Pittsburgh

Jells played his four years in the NFL with two teams (NE - 1996-97, PHI - 1998-99)

1995 NFL Draft

DT Bryan Proby - 6th Rd. - Pick #31 (202nd overall) - Arizona State

Proby played in three-career games for the Chiefs, all during the 1995 season.

DT/G Tom Barndt - 6th Rd. - Pick #36 (207th overall) Pittsburgh

Barndt played in 13 games in 1996, before playing three more years with the team (1997-1999). He played for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2000 and the Jets in 2001. Barndt did appear in the Chiefs '97 playoff game, facing the Denver Broncos.

1994 NFL Draft

RB Anthony Daigle - 6th Rd. - Pick #24 (185th overall) - Fresno St.

Daigle played in one-career NFL game for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1994.

1993 NFL Draft

RB Darius Turner - 6th Rd. - Pick #19 (159th overall) - Washington

Turner was not signed by the Chiefs and did not play in an NFL game.
