Mike Sharp and Dustin Delaney Named Chiefs High School Coaches of the Week

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the recipients of the Missouri and Kansas High School Coach of the Week awards for week five. Mike Sharp from Park Hill South High School in Riverside, Missouri, and Dustin Delaney from Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kansas, each received this honor after a strong performance by their respective teams this past week.

Park Hill South beat Liberty 26-19 in a key Suburban Red Conference showdown. The Panthers' win moved them to 6-1 on the year and 4-0 in the conference. Sharp said this award really goes to his team and assistant coaches.

"We are very excited to be named the Chiefs Coach of the Week," Sharp said. "Our players and coaches have worked incredibly hard and this honor is another testament that hard work pays off. This is a great achievement for our program! Our kids and assistant coaches deserve all the credit, they are what makes Panther Football."

Shawnee Mission East continued its strong season with a 77-26 win over Shawnee Mission North. The win moved the Lancers' record to 4-1 on the year. East's offense has been one of the best in the Metro, averaging 51 points per game. Delaney said this honor is all because of the team's hard work.

"It is a great team honor that goes to all our players and our coaching staff," Delaney said. "Their hard work has allowed us to be successful so far this season."

As a result of the award, both schools will receive a $500 grant. Additionally, both coaches will be presented with congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection. Each recipient is now a finalist for their state's Chiefs Coach of the Year Award.

The 2016 High School Coach of the Week program is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis. The Chiefs Coach of the Week program is intended to honor individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.

A member of the Chiefs Community Caring Team will visit the winners this week for a special presentation to honor them at their respective schools. Each state's winner is selected in collaboration with PrepsKC. For more information on this week's winners and the Chiefs Coach of the Week program, visit www.chiefs.com or www.prepskc.com.
