Parking Enhancements Announced

The Chiefs announced enhancements to parking operations for the 2014 season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –After a significant, encompassing review of the parking procedures at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs today announced a number of enhancements that are being made to the parking process for the 2014 season.

"The parking and traffic operations are all part of the gameday experience for our fans," Chiefs President Mark Donovan said. "We have been continually listening to our fans and exploring various ways to improve parking and traffic at the Truman Sports Complex. We believe that we have developed a solution that will enhance the door-to-door experience for all fans on gameday."

Chiefs Season Ticket Members and all Chiefs fans with questions on how the enhanced parking plan impacts their travel and parking patterns are encouraged to contact the Chiefs Customer Relations Department at customerrelations@kcchiefs.com or by calling (816) 920-4237. All fans can find updated parking information, including a map of the Truman Sports Complex and tailgating code of conduct diagram at http://GoArrowhead.com/Parking.

The Kansas City Chiefs use data analysis to continually update operational efficiencies throughout the organization and parking is no different. The Chiefs relied heavily on data technology and staff with the ability to analyze the data within this study. Based on factors such as past entry location, past parking pass location, traffic flow history and trends, as well as where fans' seats are located within the stadium, the Chiefs will send individually customized emails to Season Ticket Members designating their best entrance opportunity. In addition, the Chiefs will be able to continually monitor traffic data and update Season Ticket Members throughout the season with recommendations on how to best maximize their parking efficiency.

The Chiefs consulted SP Gameday, who has provided services at more than 90 venues and at major events across the world, including the Olympic Games, the Super Bowl and the NCAA Final Four Tournament, to conduct a traffic study for the Truman Sports Complex.

"The Chiefs hired SP Gameday in 2013 to analyze their parking operation and provide specific opportunities to improve the process and create a better fan experience," Don Jordan, Vice President Large Venue Operations for SP Gameday, said. "Our team of planning and operations specialists went onsite to study every facet of the operation during the 2013 season. We discovered that the Chiefs have a solid foundation, but with a few enhancements, they could make some notable differences."

The organization also conferred with Premier Parking Services, who manages the parking operation at Arrowhead Stadium as well as the Sprint Center, Cricket Wireless Amphitheater and Sporting Park, to join SP to develop a thorough recommendation for enhanced parking solutions.

"We are excited to once again work with the Kansas City Chiefs," Ryan Wade, Owner/Operator of Premier Parking, said. "The enhancements made to the parking operation will allow us to provide an even better guest experience."

Fans are encouraged to purchase their general parking passes in advance to decrease the time spent at parking tollgates and help expedite the parking process for all gameday visitors. General parking passes can be purchased in advance for $27 at the Chiefs Ticket Office or by calling (816) 920-4237. General parking on gameday will be $30 cash at Gates 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7. Due to heavy traffic congestion at Gate 5, there will be no cash parking purchases. Only guests with prepaid parking passes will be allowed to enter through Gate 5.

Traffic Pattern and Lot Availability

  • All traffic will flow in a counter-clockwise direction from all entrances (all traffic moves to the right).
  • Parking gate entry and type of parking pass will determine the parking lot a vehicle will park in (cars will be directed to the nearest lot with spaces available).
  • Gold parking and Red parking passes will no longer be lot-specific – a Gold pass will be able to park in the Gold area of the nearest parking lot to the gate entrance. Similarly, a Red pass will allow cars into the nearest Red lot to the gate entrance.
  • Individuals who wish to park multiple cars nearby in the same lot are encouraged to arrive through the same gate entrance at the same time in order to secure close parking spots.

In addition to the new traffic pattern and lot assignment, fans will notice many updates in the parking lots in order to make the traffic, parking and tailgating processes more efficient and effective:

  • Fans First Booths presented by Sprint will be located throughout the parking lots at tent locations.
  • Fans First Booths presented by Sprint staff members will also be navigating the parking lots via golf cart to provide assistance to guests.
  • Fans are encouraged to purchase their general parking passes in advance to decrease the time spent at parking tollgates. General parking passes can be purchased in advance for $27 at the Chiefs Ticket Office or by calling (816) 920-4237. General parking will be $30 cash at Gates 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 on gameday.
  • There will be no cash parking purchases allowed at Gate 5 due to heavy traffic congestion at that tollgate. Only guests with prepaid parking passes will be allowed to enter through Gate 5.
  • Emergency Safety Lanes have been developed in order to accommodate emergency vehicle traffic and to ensure that we can safely get cars to all available parking spots. To meet this goal, all fans are asked to maintain a clear aisle by containing all tailgate equipment to an eight-foot area behind each parking space.
