Chiefs Announce Coaches of the Week for Tenth and Final Week of the Season

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their Coach of the Week honors for the tenth and final week of the 2018 season. The awards go to Warrensburg coach Chris Cavanah and Olathe North coach Chris McCartney.

As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 player health and safety grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Each school will also receive a Gatorade Sideline Kit, including coolers, bottles and Gatorade products. Additionally, both coaches will be presented congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection.

Both coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be announced at the Simone Awards on Sunday, Dec. 16, at Olathe West High School. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year will be honored at a Chiefs game later this season and at the 2019 Pro Bowl.

Warrensburg beat Harrisonville 35-28 to advance to the Missouri Class 4 quarterfinals and clinched its first district title in almost two decades.

"I am very honored to receive this award from the Kansas City Chiefs," Cavanah said. "This is a reflection of our program with the credit going to the coaching staff and our players for their hard work, dedication and commitment. I also want to thank the administration, parents and community for the great support that we have received this year."

Last week Olathe North defeated Shawnee Mission East 24-21 to advance to the Kansas Class 6A semifinals.

"This is a tribute to our entire program," McCartney said. "Our players and coaches have been quietly working hard and taking care of business. This justifies that the hard work our kids and coaches put in is worthwhile."

In its 22nd season, the 2018 High School Coach of the Week Fueled by Gatorade is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.
