Chiefs Announce Coaches of the Week

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their Coach of the Week honors for the fourth week of the 2019 season. The awards go to Lincoln College Prep coach William Lowe and Blue Valley High School coach Allen Terrell.

As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 player health and safety grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Each school will also receive a Gatorade Sideline Kit, including coolers and Gatorade products. Additionally, both coaches will be presented congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection.

Both coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association. One coach will be selected from the pool of weekly winners and will be honored at the 2020 Pro Bowl as the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year.

Lincoln College Prep beat Pembroke Hill, 30-7, to move to 5-0 on the season. It was the Blue Tigers first win over the Raiders since 2015. Lowe said he takes the honor for the entire program.

"This is a great honor for our team and is a reflection of their hard work and commitment," Lowe said. "The success we've had this year is directly related to our players and the attitude they've had with building a winning program. I'm extremely proud of our players and our great assistant coaches. It's exciting to watch them have success. To receive this award from a first-class organization like the Chiefs is humbling. The Chiefs have been very good to us in helping with our new field and have been out in our community quite a bit this past year."

Blue Valley beat Rockhurst, 21-14, in a battle of traditional powers. The win is the Tigers' third-straight after opening the season with a loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. Terrell said this award is for the whole program.

"This honor is a testament to our coaches and kids and their efforts over the last few weeks," Terrell said. "As a program, we took one on the chin from a great St. Thomas Aquinas team in week one. Since that loss, our team has gone to work and improved daily. Friday night was a culmination of those efforts. We are honored to accept this awesome award."

In its 23rd season, the 2019 High School Coach of the Week Fueled by Gatorade is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.
