Chiefs Top ESPN's "Post-Draft Power Rankings"

The reigning Super Bowl Champions own the top spot in ESPN’s post-draft power rankings

The folks at ESPN published their "post-draft power rankings" on Monday morning, and unsurprisingly, the reigning Super Bowl Champions were at the top of the list.

More than 80 sports writers, editors and TV personalities contributed to the rankings, all of whom came to the consensus that the Kansas City Chiefs remain the best team in the NFL as they prepare to defend their title.

Here's a portion of ESPN analyst Adam Teicher's explanation, which focused on the Chiefs' selection of tailback Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round of the draft:

"Drafting RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire not only gives the team another threat, but is another sign that the Chiefs are committed to surrounding Mahomes with top offensive skill players."

ESPN's power rankings reemphasize how winning the Super Bowl means the Chiefs have earned the moniker of the team to beat in the NFL, and they're ready for the challenge. In fact, quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke about it last week.

"For us, it's [about] coming in with that mindset of being prepared for everything - making sure you really go into detail with the scouting reports and things like that - because you know you're going to get the best effort and the best change up from every single team," Mahomes said. "We've seen what the other teams in our division have been doing, and we understand that they're trying to come out there to compete against us and to try and take the crown from us, so it's about us getting better within ourselves so we can go out there and play our best football when it comes down to it."
